Sony Produces New Types of Transistors Using Printing Technology

April 25, 2019
Sony recently announced the development of a new type of transistor that controls ultra-thin TV screens. The most important feature of the new transistor is the use of organic materials instead of silicon, which not only promises low-cost mass production, but also greatly enhances the sharpness of television screens. The research results have been announced at the "International Solid Element Circuit" conference held in San Francisco, USA.
This kind of semiconductor using organic materials is produced using printing technology, which is expected to greatly reduce production costs. Sony Corp. has used this technology to prototype liquid crystal displays on glass substrates measuring 5 cm in length and 4 cm in width. The photos displayed are very clear, and it is by far the best display in organic semiconductors in the world.
Sony also said that the technology developed this time can also be used in next-generation displays, and it is entirely possible to use thin-film-like displays in the future to become "electronic paper displays." The company stated that it will use this technology as a basis to realize commercial production as soon as possible.
